An in-line roll sheeter for sheet fed printers is offered by MAXSON AUTOMATIC MACHINERY COMPANY (Westerly RI). The MSU Sheeter converts rolls of material into sheets then feeds them directly into the press, providing the competitive benefits of lower material cost, better yield and greater productivity by uniting the converting and printing processes.
Because roll stock is less expensive than cut sheets, printers can reduce their paper costs by 15 – 20% with the MAXSON MSU Sheeter. The equipment also enables them to custom-cut the paper to fit each job, so waste is reduced significantly. This is accomplished without increasing manpower requirements.
Outfitted with digital drive controls, sheet length is infinitely variable throughout the cutoff range with accuracies within +/- 0.015” (+/- 0.38 mm) of the desired setting. A slitting rig prior to the cutter trims oversized rolls to within 0.005” (0.13 mm) of the needed width. On a 40” (1016 mm) repeat, the sheeter is able to run at speeds up to 18,000 impressions/hour. For packaging applications, the sheeter can be outfitted with a dual knife rotary cutter, automatic splicing system and reject gate to realize the highest press productivity available on long production runs.
Available in various sizes, the in line sheeter can be fitted to sheet fed printing presses up to 51” x 73” (1295 mm x 1855 mm) wide format. In cases where the grain orientation is critical to post press operations, a right angle version of the sheeter is also available. The design of the sheeter is such that it can be easily retracted from the press’ feeder to allow skids of material to be run through the press as conditions dictate.
