John A. Matthews

Engineering Manager

Vice President, John Matthews is responsible for engineering, machine shop operations, assembly, customer service, and overall production performance, ensuring smooth coordination across departments to deliver precision-built equipment. Actively involved in sales strategy, financial planning, and executive decision-making, aligning operational execution with business goals and customer needs.

John joins the Maxson team after over a decade of experience in the defense industry.  Working his way up to a Mechanical Engineering Specialist, he led several large interdisciplinary projects designing and engineering complex systems for VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class submarines.  John moved from a senior technical role to management, providing oversight on several large projects working directly with the Navy to ensure customer requirements were met.

John is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and is OSHA 10 Certified.  John possesses a certificate from the University of Rhode Island in Supervisor DRIVE Training.

John received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island in 2010.  He continued his education and received his MS in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in Solid Mechanics in 2014.  John has also surveyed courses through Stevens Institute of Technology including Fundamentals of Systems Engineering and Systems Integration.

John enjoys playing beach volleyball and cycling in his free time. He is also an avid sports fan.
